Top Loading Arms

Introduction:

Top loading arms permit the transfer of liquid or liquefied gas from one tank to another through the manhole on the top of a road or rail tanker.

Depending on whether the product is ‘dangerous’ or not, this connection may be open (manhole not sealed), semi-closed (via a cone to the top of the tanker) or closed. A closed connection indicates that the product is dangerous or toxic and made by a flange to the top of the tanker, sometimes equipped with a cone and vapor hose to prevent the vapors from being released into the atmosphere.

When one is top loading, one will have to put operator safety as a number priority as the operator will be on top of the tanker.
